Puella Magi Madoka Magica doesn't just deconstruct the magical girl genre, it turns the entire thing upside down and inside out along the way. Critically acclaimed, the TV series, manga and movies follow the story of a group of middle school students who choose to become magical girls to fight 'witches'. Dark, brooding, intelligently written and at times twisted and disturbed, the story strays far from the standard realms of magical girl fare.
While not being the major character, Tomoe Mami's personality really struck a chord with me, being the kindly older sister type, and she has a fantastic battle outfit, which is the cosplay I opted for.
